Micronycteris megalotis ventral skulls! I’m taking a scientific illustration class finally and learning how to do this for real, which is exciting.
I’m also learning how weird drafting film is to draw on.

Twas waiting for the thebrainscoop to release their video of this guy!  That was pleasant.  I wasn’t present for the dissection in person but went downstairs to check it out one day after hearing about it.  I missed seeing the calf… as a calf.  The thing is epic though.

Teasers of the end result to keep you occupied until Part II next week.

In case you missed it yesterday - The Two-Faced Calf, Pt. I

Holotype: Thylacosmilus atrox, the sabre-toothed marsupial. These carnivorous animals roamed modern-day South America from about 5.2-2.5mya. Thanks to convergent evolution Thylacosmilus closely resembles the sabre-toothed felines that followed nearly 1.5 million years later, but the two are not related.

Current project for class: a labeled drawing of a skull. This skull is from a grey fox.

I will never not love drawing animal bones.
